Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sr. Data Engineer! A Data Engineer will build, manage, integrate, and optimize reservoirs for data in support of delivering relevant information for business consumption, promoting advances in predictive analytics and machine learning. This individual will develop, construct, test, and maintain designs for databases and large-scale data processing systems, supporting business, solution, and enterprise architectures. They will collaborate closely with architects and the business to determine appropriate data management systems and identify required data for analysis, ultimately providing clean, usable data for stakeholders.
What You’ll Do In This Role:
- Lead requirements gathering and technical specifications for large and complex solution data needs, participating in data design, requirements walkthroughs, and reviews.
- Design and document system integration/configuration as required; implement and advance data models and configurations to support data integration and promote Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) along with CQRS pattern caching.
- Research, design, and implement next-generation analytics and machine learning platforms.
- Build tools, frameworks, APIs, and dashboards for telemetry and advanced analytics, focusing on improving data security, accessibility, reliability, scalability, efficiency, and quality.
- Lead data governance and guide all data schema/configuration changes.

Compensation: Salary Range: $121,300 - $202,200 plus eligibility for an annual bonus program.
Who You Are:
- B.S. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software/Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience in Data Science, Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, or Software Engineering roles.
- Strong experience building and maintaining data pipelines, architectures, and workflows with modern tools and frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake (or similar data warehousing platforms), including data modeling, schema design, and query optimization for insurance data analytics.
- Proficiency with DBT for data transformation, ensuring quality, and version control.
- Practical knowledge of workflow orchestration tools like Dagster or Airflow for managing data pipelines.
- Familiarity with ETL/ELT tools like Fivetran for automated data ingestion from various sources.
- Extensive experience with AWS services (e.g., S3, Lambda, EC2, RDS) for data storage and processing.
- Strong coding skills in Python for data manipulation, automation, and workflow efficiency.
- Advanced SQL knowledge and experience with version control systems like Git.
- Familiarity with best practices for data quality, security, and governance.
- Excellent collaboration skills with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and deliver tailored solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills focused on optimization and improving processes.
