We are hiring a Senior Manager, Data Science to join our Data Science team at Oscar, the first health insurance company built around a full stack technology platform focused on serving our members. As a Lead Data Scientist, you will:

  • Collaborate with the operations team and stakeholders to track and improve savings from payment integrity initiatives.
  • Manage a team of 2-3 Data Scientists focused on performance monitoring and ideation.
  • Set the technical vision for your area, ensuring a holistic reporting approach through management and self-led execution.

Work Location: Oscar fosters a blended work culture. If you live within a commutable distance to our New York City, Tempe, or Los Angeles offices, you’ll be expected to come in at least two days a week. Otherwise, this role is fully remote. You must reside in certain states, including but not limited to: Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, New York, and Texas. A full list of applicable states is available and subject to change.

Pay Transparency: The base pay for this role is $174,400 - $228,900 per year, with additional eligibility for employee benefits, participation in Oscar’s unlimited vacation program, equity grants, and annual performance bonuses. You must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis, as we do not sponsor applicants for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Translate business goals into actionable plans and tactics.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to establish long-term strategies and roadmaps.
  • Manage team-wide technical and operational responsibilities.
  • Lead and manage a small team of data scientists and/or analysts.
  • Collaborate closely with data and business management across functional areas.
  • Oversee the research, development, and maintenance of data pipelines, statistical/ML models, and advanced analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in industry or other quantitative fields.
  • 4+ years working with SQL, R, and/or Python for data manipulation and analysis.
  • 4+ years of experience building data models using advanced analytics methods and statistical modeling.
  • 1+ years of people management experience (if applicable).
  • Bonus Points: Advanced degree in a quantitative or technical field; experience in healthcare, finance, or insurance industries.
