We are looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join Freeform, a company at the forefront of deploying software-defined, autonomous metal 3D printing factories globally. Our innovative technology stack harnesses advanced sensing, real-time controls, and data-driven learning to produce digitally-verified, flawless parts efficiently and cost-effectively. Our goal is to make 3D printing accessible across all industries at scale, unlocking a new era of innovation. In this role, you will leverage your extensive experience in advanced pattern recognition, predictive modeling techniques, and deep learning algorithms, particularly in relation to physics or physical systems. You will be integral in designing, developing, and integrating vital data science infrastructure, and creating custom machine learning algorithms from the ground up. Your solutions will help us scale our pioneering production-scale, high-quality, fully automated metal 3D printing factory architecture. We seek intelligent, motivated engineers who thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy tackling challenging problems.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop data models for model predictive control in metal 3D printing systems.
  • Create a unified simulation framework integrating data and physics-based models.
  • Develop a deep learning framework for modeling complex physics in laser melting technologies.
  • Implement unsupervised learning algorithms to link data with printed part quality and geometric features.
  • Work closely with simulation engineers to predict the thermo-mechanical response of printed parts.
  • Develop learning modules for machine health monitoring and collaborate with software engineers to deploy data science algorithms.
  • Guide the development of big data infrastructure to manage large amounts of production printing data.
  • Support the end-to-end automation of an advanced metal 3D printing platform.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, applied mathematics, machine learning, data science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in advanced machine learning.
  • Proficiency with Python or C/C++ (or similar object-oriented languages).
  • Strong knowledge of advanced pattern recognition, predictive modeling, and deep learning techniques.
  • Experience with machine learning/data science as applicable to physics or physical systems.

Nice to Have:

  • Master's or PhD in computer science, applied mathematics, machine learning, or data science.
  • Experience with computational geometry and data mining/statistical analysis.
  • Familiarity with both supervised and unsupervised learning techniques, image processing, and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
  • Knowledge of SQL or Hive and MATLAB proficiency.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and excellent verbal/written communication skills.

Location:

Our facility is situated in Hawthorne, CA, and features a state-of-the-art 35,000 square foot space designed for collaboration, R&D, and production, conveniently located near major freeways and within Los Angeles' dynamic tech ecosystem.

What We Offer:

  • An inclusive and diverse culture that prioritizes collaboration, learning, and data-driven decision-making.
  • A unique opportunity to be a key player in a rapidly growing company scaling a transformative technology.

Benefits:

  • Significant stock option packages.
  • 100% employer-paid Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance with premium PPO and HMO options.
  • Life insurance, traditional and Roth 401(k), and relocation assistance.
  • Paid vacation, sick leave, company holidays, and generous Paid Parental Leave with extended transition support for birthing parents.
  • Daily catered lunch and dinner, fully stocked kitchenette, casual dress code, flexible hours, and regular team-building events.

Compensation:

As we grow, our salary range is intentionally broad, ensuring competitiveness based on experience, educational background, and unique skills demonstrated throughout the interview process. The estimated salary range for this role is $140,000-$250,000, which reflects various levels/seniorities within this discipline, alongside a significant stock option package.
