The Principal Data Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing data pipelines and architectures to support the scalable and efficient processing of large datasets in the Azure cloud environment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Data Strategy & Implementation:
    • Drive business objectives with a best-in-class data management function.
    • Develop robust, scalable data models and architectures for large datasets, utilizing Azure data services (e.g., One Lake, Kusto Database, HDS, and Azure Cosmos DB).
    • Implement data governance guidelines related to data classification, policies, quality, etc.
  • Data Pipeline Design:
    • Design and implement data pipelines for efficient data ingestion, processing, and distribution across Azure services.
    • Optimize data flows and ensure data quality, incorporating real-time data processing solutions.
  • Strategic Collaboration:
    • Partner with business analysts and architects for technical architecture development on strategic projects.
    • Provide oversight and innovative solutions for data strategy and architecture maturity.
  • Advanced Database Usage:
    • Utilize advanced database systems for business, financial, and operational analysis.

Job Qualifications:

  • Required:
    • BS/BA degree in computer science, engineering, or comparable background.
    • Minimum of 10 years of programming experience with Python.
    • At least 6 years of experience with Microsoft Azure related data technologies.
    • Expertise in data pipeline tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, DBT) and experience with Medallion architecture.
    • Proficiency in security concepts like Managed Private Endpoints and Data Gateways.
    • Experience with tools like Spark or DataBricks, and container management with Kubernetes.
  • Preferred: Certification in Microsoft DP-600 is a big plus.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $125,634.00 - $175,888.00 per year, plus the potential for an annual bonus. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, location, and relevant education and certifications.
