Where You’ll Work: Evernorth Health Services, a division of The Cigna Group, is seeking 2025 Summer Interns who have a passion for applying advanced analytics and data science to healthcare’s biggest challenges. What You’ll Do: Join the Enterprise Data Science team at Evernorth Health Services as an ML Engineering Intern. In this role, you'll build and deploy machine learning frameworks, accelerating development to deployment timelines and supporting data scientists in their projects. Your focus will include:

  • Creating scalable algorithms and developing efficient data pipelines.
  • Working with large datasets, including pharmacy and medical claims transactions, member information, voice call transcripts, survey data, web log data, etc.
  • Previous project examples include a POC for embedding store leveraging autoencoders, frameworks for fast-tracking model development, and modularizing the entity-based feature engineering code base on Hadoop to leverage big data technologies such as Pyspark and Spark SQL.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates working towards a master’s degree or PhD in quantitative disciplines such as Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Econometrics, Finance, Engineering, Operations Research, Bioinformatics, Information Systems, Computational Linguistics, or similar fields.
  • Ability to work with various data sources using SQL & Python, along with experience in Python ML Libraries (Scikit Learn, MLlib, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Exposure to AWS cloud services and running Apache Spark applications, along with previous work experience in software engineering.
  • Preference given to students with a GPA of 3.0 or above with demonstrated proficiency in quantitative subjects.
  • Experience with API development leveraging Fast API / Flask, developing and deploying Spark/Databricks jobs with enterprise tool stacks like Jenkins/GitHub Actions, and deployment utilizing containerization solutions like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with distributed computing and Big Data Technologies like Hive, Spark, Scala, HDFS, and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Information:

  • Location: This is an in-office/hybrid internship, with applicants aligned to one of the following locations: 4600 North Hanley, St. Louis, MO 63134; 115 Tabor Road, Morris Plains, NJ 07950; 11501 Alterra Pkwy, Austin, TX 78758.
  • Work Authorization: This temporary internship is open only to individuals eligible for employment in the United States who would not require visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Schedule: You must be available to work 40 hours/week for 12 consecutive weeks beginning May 19, 2025. Working hours are Monday – Friday.
  • Compensation: Anticipated hourly rate between $30.00 and $40.00, depending on relevant factors, including major and year of study.
  • Internet Connection: If working from home occasionally or permanently, internet connection must be through a cable broadband or fiber optic provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.
