The Lead Data Engineer will be responsible for expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection for cross-functional teams. They will drive our data initiatives and ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects, engaging through the entire lifecycle of a project which includes data mapping, data pipelines, data modeling, and data consumption. The ideal candidate must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products while proactively optimizing or assisting with the design of our company’s data architecture to support future products and initiatives. Our flexible/hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days. Core office locations include Salisbury, NC, Chicago, IL, Quincy, MA, Carlisle, PA, Scarborough, ME, Hyattsville, MD, and Mauldin, SC. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Duties and Responsibilities: - Solve complex application errors, design, and resolve application problems, while ensuring prompt follow-up with customers and IT personnel. - Validate QA test plans and support QA team during test execution. - Design and develop data transformations and data pipelines. - Ensure adherence to change control and management procedures related to requirements. - Design and develop BI datasets for reports and dashboards to support decision-making within business and IT. - Create and review requirement and functional design documents throughout the software development life cycle. - Document all phases of work including requirements gathering, relationship diagrams, database diagrams, report layouts, and technical specifications. - Conduct unit testing on ELT and report development, as well as data analysis on legacy systems and new data sources. - Create and approve source-to-target data mappings for data pipelines and integration activities. - Work closely with stakeholders to ensure requirements are developed and agreed upon. - Implement and maintain data governance policies and procedures for data quality, security, and compliance. - Initiate and lead workstreams to improve team processes and eliminate technical debt. - Act as a subject matter expert on technology solutions, coaching and mentoring junior engineers. - Remain up to date on emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering, recommending new approaches to enhance data infrastructure. Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; Master’s Degree in Technology and/or Business is preferred. Equivalent training, certifications, or experience will be considered. - 8+ years of relevant experience in technology. - 2+ years of advanced role or technical capacity, leading teams directly or indirectly. - 2+ years of experience in guiding, training, or onboarding team members in relevant technologies. Preferred Qualifications: - Postgraduate degree, advanced training, or certifications in a relevant field. - 3+ years of experience in Agile teams and Product/Platform based operating models. - 3+ years of experience in leading teams or advancing technical capabilities within teams. - Experience in retail or grocery preferred.
