Primary Purpose
The Lead Data Engineer will be responsible for expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection for cross-functional teams. They will drive our data initiatives to ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects, engaging in the entire lifecycle of a project from data mapping to data consumption. They must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products, proactively optimizing or assisting with the design of our company’s data architecture to support our next generation of products and data initiatives. They will work on various, ambiguous, and complex issues, where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors, thorough understanding of the business strategy, operations, markets, and key stakeholders.

Our flexible/hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days. Our core office locations include Salisbury, NC, Chicago, IL, Quincy, MA, Carlisle, PA, Scarborough, ME, Hyattsville, MD, and Mauldin, SC. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Duties And Responsibilities
- Solves complex application errors and designs, resolves application problems, ensuring prompt follow-up with customers and IT personnel.
- Validates QA test plans and supports the QA team during test execution.
- Designs and develops data transformations and data pipelines, ensuring change control and management procedures are followed.
- Develops BI datasets for reports and dashboards to support decision-making and creates requirement and functional design documents for the software development life cycle.
- Documents all phases of work, including gathering requirements, relationship diagrams, and report layouts using current specified design standards.
- Conducts unit testing on ELT and report development while performing data lineage and impact analysis as part of the change management process.
- Conducts data analysis on legacy systems and new data sources and documents reporting requirements through engagement with business process SMEs.
- Creates source to target data mappings for data pipelines and identifies the impact of proposed application development projects.
- Performs data profiling and process analysis to understand key source systems and assess the scope of business needs.
- Works closely with business users throughout all project stages, ensuring the requirements are well-defined and solutions are delivered to meet business needs.
- Implements and maintains data governance policies and procedures to ensure data quality, security, and compliance.
- Acts as a subject matter expert on technology solutions and initiates workstreams to improve team processes while mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Technical field and Master's Degree in Technology and/or Business-related field; equivalent training/certifications/experience will be considered.
- 8 or more years of relevant experience in technology.
- 2 or more years in a leadership role, guiding and training team members.
- Preferred: Postgraduate degree or advanced training/certifications; 3 or more years in Agile teams and product-based operating models, along with experience in retail or grocery preferred.
