We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Analyst to join the Colorado Rockies Baseball Club team. This position offers the opportunity to tackle challenging problems, utilize interesting data, collaborate with talented individuals, and directly impact the baseball field and business operations. Analysts will employ statistical and machine learning techniques to better understand the game of baseball while effectively communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences across various departments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Data Analysis:
Design, build, test, and deploy statistical and machine learning models to support baseball operations, including scouting, player development, and major league teams. Analyze complex player performance, game statistics, and team metrics to uncover trends and patterns.
- Model Development:
Develop and refine predictive models for forecasting player performance and game outcomes, continually improving them based on new data and feedback.
- Insight Generation:
Translate analysis into actionable insights for coaching staff, management, and stakeholders. Create detailed reports and visualizations for effective communication of findings.
- Tool Development:
Design and implement user-friendly data tools and dashboards for real-time decision-making and performance tracking, ensuring they meet various stakeholder needs.
- Research:
Stay current with advancements in data science and sports analytics while applying innovative techniques to enhance the team’s capabilities. Conduct research using statistical modeling for specific game areas and maintain ownership of model results.
- Collaboration:
Develop a strong understanding of the R&D team’s research, code base, and database while assisting in the improvement and maintenance of existing projects. Perform ad hoc analyses as needed.
- Data Management:
Ensure accurate data collection, storage, and management while maintaining data integrity and addressing quality issues.
- Presentation:
Prepare and deliver presentations summarizing findings and recommendations, tailoring them for different technical and non-technical audiences.
Job Requirements:
- Education: Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field (certification programs not equivalent).
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in data science, statistical analysis, or a related role, preferably within a sports environment.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in programming languages (Python or R) for data analysis and modeling.
- Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow).
- Strong knowledge of statistical methods and machine learning algorithms.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Experience with SQL, high-dimensional time series data, and various generative AI techniques preferred.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills for presenting complex data clearly.
- A collaborative spirit and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions/Work Schedule:
- Work Environment: Primarily office-based at Coors Field.
- Work Hours: Standard full-time hours with potential for extended hours during key periods.
- Travel: Minimal travel may be required for team events.
- Team Dynamics: Collaborative environment involving interactions with coaching staff, analysts, and front office personnel.
Physical Job Requirements:
- Desk Work: Prolonged periods of sitting and working with data on a computer.
- Typing and Dexterity: Frequent typing and use of input devices, good hand-eye coordination necessary.
- Visual Acuity: Ability to review and interpret detailed data and visualizations for extended periods.
- Communication: Regular communication through various channels; clear verbal and written skills needed.
- Stress Management: Capability to manage tight deadlines and maintain focus during critical analysis periods.
Compensation And Benefits:
Annual salary range is $125,000 - $145,000 for this full-time position.
