The Role: As a Data Scientist on the Product team at Valence, you'll establish the data-driven product development culture of our AI Coach, reporting into our Head of AI. Your role will involve:

  • Creating robust data pipelines and conducting rigorous A/B testing.
  • Applying state-of-the-art Natural Language Understanding (NLU) techniques to extract insights from coaching interactions.
  • Collaborating closely with our engineering, product, and leadership teams to shape our AI coaching platform for Fortune 500 enterprises.

What You'll Do:

  • Embed with the product team as a trusted partner, uncovering new ways to improve our AI coaching platform's performance and user experience.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines for unstructured datasets and conduct rigorous A/B testing and statistical analysis to optimize AI models' effectiveness.
  • Develop dashboards, reports, and enable the team to answer product questions in a self-serve manner.
  • Apply the latest machine learning and deep learning techniques to solve challenges in natural language understanding and generation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate data insights into innovative product features and implement quality assurance processes.
  • Stay at the forefront of AI advancements, especially in NLP and conversational AI, proposing new applications for our platform.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field; 3+ years of professional experience (or equivalent) in software engineering, data science, or AI/ML development.
  • Strong programming skills in Python with relevant experience in data analysis and machine learning libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Hands-on experience with large language models and natural language processing techniques, and proficiency in core data technologies (e.g., SQL, Spark).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and their machine learning services; strong background in experimental design, relevant math/statistics.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience navigating highly ambiguous environments.

Location and Work Environment: Candidates are based in NYC or Toronto and can work hybrid in our offices; this role can also be remote. Candidates must be comfortable working with colleagues in different time zones (UK) and have valid travel documents without work authorization restrictions in the US.
