In this Data Scientist Machine Learning Engineer role, you will be a key contributor on our path towards prescriptive analytics, engaging in the entire breadth of our data topology while building machine learning capabilities. This is an exciting opportunity for a Data Scientist Machine Learning Engineer ready to impact our business by advancing data maturity at SmartSense through the creation of data products that delight our customers.

Who You Are and What You Bring

  • Collaboration: Work closely with product owners, software leadership, UX, and the data team to translate business requirements into technology design and solutions.
  • Data Handling: Convert data science outputs into production-grade software, retrieve and aggregate data from multiple sources, and compile it into actionable formats.
  • Expertise Development: Build expertise in a broad range of data resources, knowing when and how to use them.
  • Process Improvement: Drive innovations and efficiency through new technology solutions and data models.
  • Data Analysis: Perform data exploration, visualization, and analytics to understand first-party and third-party data.
  • Agile Methodology: Participate in sprint planning and project activities, developing process flows, data flow diagrams, reporting requirements, and data mapping.
  • Machine Learning Pipeline: Design, implement, test, deploy, and scale production ML, working closely with Data Engineering to develop necessary data pipelines and integrate ML with AWS services.
  • Model Monitoring: Implement and maintain machine learning pipelines, monitoring production models, ensuring quality and protection against data drift.

Desired but Not Required

  • Experience with Kubernetes deployments.
  • Experience deploying machine learning models in GCP and AWS.
  • Experience with MongoDB and Red Panda or Mage.

What You Will Do

Within the first month:

  • Complete onboarding and meet the Product Team to learn the product roadmap.
  • Familiarize yourself with our data topology, models, tools, and access paradigms.
  • Build relationships with team members across functional groups.
  • Participate in Agile project activities and understand our use cases for predictive analytics.

Within three months:

  • Identify and validate predictive analytics proposals to solve with ML.
  • Engage with the team to improve understanding of data commodities relevant to advanced analytics.
  • Identify convergence points for predictive opportunities and gaps in technology/tooling.
  • Work across various programming languages (Python, Scala, Java, etc.) for data curation.
  • Achieve mastery of the business domain related to our data models.

Within six months:

  • Influence product roadmap architecture related to advanced analytics.
  • Translate user stories into data science problems.
  • Participate in the design and testing of data products for predictive models.
  • Challenge requirements while enhancing story pointing for data product outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities for data-driven decision-making and applied ML techniques.

Within twelve months:

  • Ensure data quality and protect against drift through close collaboration with the team.
  • Influence product team use cases related to advanced analytics.
  • Deliver on key performance indicators (KPIs) with data models and communicate methods to engineers.
  • Develop simulation models for real-time event reporting and remediation plans.
  • Play a key role in breaking down analytics and data science tasks into manageable pieces.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $66,500 - $104,000, depending on various factors including relevant experience, education, skills, and location.
