Data Scientist

Elite sport generates a vast array of data – think GPS metrics, injury records, event data, and more. At Kitman Labs, our mission is to turn this data into meaningful insights that empower teams and athletes to perform at their best. We're looking for a data-savvy team player to help us build and evolve our Intelligence Platform. This role involves working closely with our Engineering, Product, and Performance Science teams to develop practical solutions to some of sport's greatest challenges, as well as conducting R&D to produce new and highly innovative product features. Additionally, this role will support our emerging defence industry work, applying data science to new and highly impactful domains.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and operationalise analytics concepts, collaborating with Engineering, Product, and Performance teams to transition research into product.
• Contribute to making data science a game changer in elite sport and the defence sector, refining how analytics impact performance while tackling unique data science challenges faced by clients.
• Expand and improve our Intelligence Platform by creating impactful models for injury risk, player development, talent identification, and team performance, contributing to R&D for new product features.
• Build pipelines and models that integrate seamlessly with our existing infrastructure.
• Develop performance dashboards, in-depth reports, and data-driven insights for coaches, medical staff, and performance departments, assisting clients with analytical challenges.
• Present your work frequently and effectively, both internally and to clients.

Experience & Skills We're Looking For:

• 3–5 years of industry experience in a data science role, preferably in a research and development capacity in a software company.
• Strong programming skills with experience in Python; your code should be clean, organized, and easy to read.
• Experience building models and developing data and analytical pipelines to solve real-world problems.
• Solid understanding of machine learning/statistical theory with practical experience applying various techniques.
• Familiarity with deploying models in production environments.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex data science concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to collaboratively develop solutions with internal and external teams.
• Bachelor’s/Master’s in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Sports Science, or a related field.
• A genuine interest in human performance, particularly in the context of elite athletics or defence.
• Must be a US National, able to pass a background check, and potentially gain security clearance.
