As a Data Scientist, your essential job functions will include the following:

Manage Large Datasets:

  • Dive deep into data—utilize programming tools to cleanse, validate, and ensure the quality of large structured and unstructured data sets.
  • Apply transformation techniques (e.g., missing data, standardizing formats, detecting outliers, duplicate data) to transition data from its raw form into clean, high-quality data tables.
  • Use SQL and data APIs to interact with data stored in various systems, ranging from relational databases to file systems.
  • When necessary, apply machine learning or other applicable techniques to enhance the usefulness and reliability of large data sets.
  • Collect and curate data needed for research from both internal and external sources.

Advanced Modeling and Analysis:

  • Identify and execute projects that provide significant organizational value, focusing on measurable impact.
  • Develop mathematical models to maximize service and minimize costs.
  • Apply statistical and algorithmic methods including supervised and unsupervised machine learning, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, forecasting, natural language processing, clustering, classification, survival analysis, simulations, and optimizations.
  • Communicate findings through clear, visual presentations that are easily consumable by technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Provide trustworthy guidance and fact-checking for colleagues and project sponsors; offer data-driven insights and recommendations.

Product and Project Management:

  • Serve as a key contributor and developer for assigned projects, coordinating team activities and guiding the technical design of data science solutions.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions for new projects, evaluating technical feasibility and establishing project requirements.
  • Ensure project sponsors are kept up to date on status, and provide advanced-level development, testing, debugging, and documentation for reliability.
  • Quantify the impact of analyses and communicate results; support the design and maintenance of data science tools and reporting related to performance.
  • Document, update, and analyze data science production processes to ensure they are routinely represented and actionable.

Project Proposal and Ideation:

  • Participate in brainstorming sessions for new data science projects, providing insights from initial data analysis.
  • Identify opportunities for data-driven solutions that address business challenges or improve operations while collaborating with stakeholders to refine project ideas.

Mentoring and Team Support:

  • Ensure adherence to best practices and quality standards through code and design reviews.
  • Assist team members with routine data analysis tasks to alleviate workload and meet project timelines.
  • Participate in team discussions, sharing learnings and supporting internal documentation efforts to maintain organized project knowledge.

Position Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or other quantitative fields.
  • 2-5 years of experience with the ability to present complex technical material to executive audiences.
  • Proficient in project and product management skills, with a sense of urgency and the ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), programming languages for statistics and automation (Python), and data-access languages (SQL, PostgreSQL, T-SQL).
  • Experience with Alteryx, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and version control approaches for product development (Unit testing, Git, documentation, logging).
  • Proficient in statistical modeling and machine learning frameworks (SciPy, Caret, sklearn); familiarity with container services (Rancher, Kubernetes, Docker) and platforms (OBIEE, Salesforce, Google Analytics) is a plus.

Competencies Required:

  • Strategic Acumen
  • Critical Thinking
  • Agility
  • Initiative
  • Communication
  • Relationship Building

Physical Job Requirements:

  • Continuous viewing from and inputting to a computer screen.
  • Sitting for long periods of time.
  • Travel as necessary, <10%.
