The Role: Fetch’s next step in evolving our business will require a DataOps - Data Engineer to join the data team and play a pivotal role in designing and building scalable and efficient data pipelines and transformation systems to process terabytes of data each day to support Fetch’s business. The ideal candidate will drive initiatives to create a robust data governance structure, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure data is governed efficiently, securely, and in compliance with regulatory standards. The work of data engineers is to drive and take ownership of projects that enable all stakeholders to access and use extensive data, working closely with other engineers and teams in the organization with a goal of achieving world-class data availability.

Scope Of Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain data governance frameworks ensuring quality, security, compliance, and accessibility.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant data privacy regulations.
  • Develop tools for rapid data product development; create data pipelines that efficiently process terabytes of data daily.
  • Generate innovative approaches to datasets with millions of daily active users and terabytes of data; apply data modeling best practices.
  • Design systems and frameworks to ensure higher data quality throughout the data lifecycle; develop, measure, and enforce data quality standards.
  • Collaborate with the DevOps team to integrate data needs into DevOps tooling and champion DataOps practices promoting collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and evaluate their potential impact on Fetch’s strategy.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Self-starter capable of taking a project from architecture to adoption.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform or CloudFormation) and familiarity with CI/CD processes.
  • Proficient in the software development lifecycle, data quality management, and data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA).
  • Experience in designing scalable data pipelines using frameworks like Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, or Flink.
  • Strong foundation in data architecture principles and proficiency in modern programming languages (Go, Python, Java, Rust) and SQL.
  • Comfortable presenting and challenging technical decisions in a peer review environment.
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science, Data Science, or Business Analytics.
