We are looking for a Data Engineer at Kuvare, a growth-oriented insurance platform delivering diversified annuities, life insurance, and supplemental products. The Data Engineer will play a key role in the retrieval, storage, and distribution of data across various platforms and data stores, leveraging modern ETL/ELT pipelines and architectures.

Summary/Objective: The Kuvare Data Engineer is responsible for enhancing the data platform to support new business relationships and products. This role involves working with modern models such as data mesh and event streaming architectures, utilizing various data forms and broad experience in data modeling.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Research architectural trends, design methods, and emerging technologies to maintain a nimble technology platform for new business opportunities.
  • Work with Business SMEs and end users, including external partners, to translate business requirements into technical specifications, such as data flow diagrams and technical designs.
  • Create data pipelines for data ingestion and transport to/from various data stores using tools like SFTP, Azure Data Factory, and SQL Stored Procedures.
  • Utilize strong SQL skills to build structured data repositories: tables, views, indexes, and constraints.
  • Perform tests and evaluations to ensure data reliability, security, privacy, and integrity.
  • Travel occasionally for monthly local meetings and an annual IT summit at a Kuvare hub office.

Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, computer engineering, or related field; or equivalent education and experience.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server and the Azure environment.
  • Expertise in relational and dimensional database modeling, data development, and administration.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT pipelines using tools like SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Function Apps, etc.
  • Analytic and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.

Skills/Competencies:

  • Experience with data mesh and event streaming architectures including Azure Event Hub and Kafka.
  • Familiarity with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data forms such as YAML and JSON.
  • Prior experience with SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, Visual Studio, Azure DevOps, and Git.
  • Knowledge of data privacy practices and regulations, especially in regulated industries, is a plus.

Physical Demands:

  • Normal office working environment, with occasional evening and weekend hours to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, perform data entry, and communicate effectively.
  • Limited travel (5-10%) may be required.
