Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer to support the OCIO Computer Operations and Cloud Computing team. This team is focused on implementing and pursuing next-generation innovations. We are looking for a cloud engineer with expertise in strategy, design, development, and implementation of large-scale projects in the cloud, including High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments. While experience with Azure Cloud Computing is expected, exposure to other vendor platforms (AWS, Google) is also ideal. The prospective candidate should have a strong grasp of emerging cloud technologies, platforms, and applications, with the ability to customize these tools to enhance business security and efficiency. Extensive knowledge of cloud maintenance, staff engagement, and advanced industry knowledge are essential. Familiarity with Azure GCC Platforms and other FedRAMP approved platforms is desired.

Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with existing engineering teams to identify and implement optimal cloud-based solutions for the lab.
  • Support the transition of critical business applications and procedures to private and hybrid cloud platforms.
  • Define and document best practices and strategies for application and compute deployment, as well as infrastructure maintenance.
  • Establish deployment methodology for a new cloud tenant to ensure resource performance, uptime, and scalability while maintaining high design standards.
  • Manage cloud environments according to company security guidelines.
  • Under the direction of lead engineers or architects, develop and implement technical efforts to design, build, and deploy large-scale data processing and analytics solutions. Responsibilities also include troubleshooting incidents, identifying root causes, fixing problems, and implementing preventive measures.
  • Educate teams on new cloud-based initiatives, providing necessary training and support.
  • Demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills, proactively addressing issues before they impact business productivity.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • BS/BA in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field with 7 or more years of experience in architecting, designing, and implementing cloud solutions, emphasizing Azure Services.
    • Experience with database architecture, business intelligence, big data, machine learning, advanced analytics, and OS deployments (Linux and Windows Server).
    • Proven ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including business analysts, developers, data scientists, and subject-matter experts.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field + 9 years of experience.
    • Knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g., Bash, Python, Perl, PowerShell).
    • Experience in Federal Government and/or higher educational environments.
    • Minimum of two professional certifications focused on cloud (e.g., Azure/AWS Data Engineer Associate, Cloud Practitioner, Solutions Architect or similar).
