The Backend Data Engineer position works cross-functionally with business experts, analytics, and engineering teams to design and implement new data solutions. The role involves:

  • Designing and implementing scalable data pipelines that transform various data types into actionable data models.
  • Providing hands-on technical support to build trusted and reliable data sources.
  • Utilizing modern data architecture, including Cloud ETL processes, Cloud services, data warehousing, and databases (PostgressDB).
  • Using data pipelining tools, data visualization, communication, reporting, and performance tuning.
  • Assessing business requirements and developing technical solutions based on specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate in designing and implementing scalable data solutions meeting business and industry requirements.
  • Build modern data pipelines using streaming data services and APIs while championing agile practices.
  • Document technology specifications, ensuring optimal solutions and leveraging existing technologies.
  • Translate business requirements into accessible data models for diverse company disciplines.
  • Create standards and best practices for BI and data science solutions in partnership with experts.
  • Enhance data reliability and quality, incorporating new data sources, and develop quality frameworks for high-quality data delivery.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production database issues, along with other assigned duties.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field; or 7 years of related experience in lieu of degree.
  • 3+ years in a technical role supporting BI and data science, with skills in statistics, data wrangling, data visualization, and communication.
  • 3+ years in database development, including ETL, data modeling, complex queries, performance tuning, and stored procedures/functions.
  • 3+ years programming experience in Python, Java or Scala, C#.net.
  • 2+ years with Cloud technologies related to Data Science and experience with tools for building data pipelines.
  • Proven record of successfully delivering large data-centric projects and understanding enterprise-wide business operations.
  • Strong relationship management skills and ability to interface with users, team members, and management at all levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with teams across different geographical locations.

Preferred Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Periscope.
  • Familiarity with the wagering/gaming industry and knowledge of horse racing and related fields.

Additional Information:

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
  • Empowered to take initiative on applicable duties/projects.
  • May require travel up to 5% to 10% beyond the local area.
  • Position can be based in Washington, PA, Hunt Valley, MD, or Hallandale Beach, FL office locations, classified as “Remote Work”.
