Role Summary
Collaborating with the Head of Technology, the Business Intelligence Engineer will design, develop, and support business intelligence solutions that turn data into actionable insights that support business decision-making, analytics, and product development. An ideal candidate should be very data-savvy, with solid skills in data modeling, data visualization, and overall business intelligence solutions.
Essential Job Functions
- Collaborate with internal business stakeholders to gather business needs and translate requirements into specifications and actionable data requests.
- Develop detailed requirements documentation (user stories, design specifications, data flows, acceptance criteria).
- Lead data architecture efforts to structure and maintain data in the enterprise for optimal accuracy and usage.
- Design, develop, and maintain data models and scalable reports, dashboards, and visualizations to support analytical and business needs.
- Optimize performance of data queries and processes to ensure efficient data retrieval and processing.
- Ensure data quality and integrity through validation and monitoring processes.
- Extract, transform, load (ETL), and maintain data from various sources in the data warehouse.
- Create and manage complex SQL queries and views, including those used in ETL scripts or transformations using DBT.
- Establish and maintain standard processes for the design, development, and support of BI solutions.
- Process, clean, and validate data integrity for analysis.
- Respond and resolve operational problems as necessary. Document, troubleshoot, and resolve day-to-day data issues.
- Must be willing to travel 20% of the time and be in the office 5 days a week.

Technical Competencies
- Experience with relational and dimensional database modeling (Relational, Kimball, Data Vault).
- Strong experience designing and deploying full stack data analytics platforms (cloud-based data warehouse technologies, data visualization tools such as PowerBI and Tableau).
- In-depth understanding of database management systems, OLAP & ETL frameworks, Databricks, Delta Lake.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure Data Integration Stack and related cloud services (Azure Data Lake Gen2, Azure Data Factory, SSIS, Azure SQL Server).
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
- Experience with ETL tools (DBT, Apache Airflow, Talend, Informatica).
- Proven experience with all aspects of the Data Pipeline (Data Sourcing, Transformations, Data Quality, etc.).
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
- Experience with big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark) and cloud platforms (Azure, Snowflake, AWS, GCP).
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Sigma) and BI concepts.
- Familiarity with LLMs (e.g., GPT 3.5, 4.0, Gemini, Microsoft Co-Pilot).
- Excellent technical documentation and writing skills, and experience in publishing API documentation or similar.
- Experience with visual modelling tools including UML.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Certification in relevant technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Big Data - Specialty, Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate).
Closing
- Base Salary Range: $145,000 – $185,000 (subject to variation based on location and experience).
- Benefits include health insurance coverage, retirement savings plan, paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO). The additional total direct compensation and benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of applicable governing plans and policies.
