Why you should join us: Tandem is a generational opportunity to rethink how we bring new therapies to market, and our path to doing so is significantly de-risked. We boast:

  • Exponential organic growth: Product-market fit with rapid growth through word-of-mouth, supporting thousands of patients weekly and doubling physician user counts each month. Projected to reach millions by 2025.
  • An AI-first business model: Leveraging AI enables our business to strengthen as foundation models improve, building durability through two-sided network effects.
  • Top-tier investors: Significant funding raised from reputable investors including Thrive Capital, General Catalyst, Bain Capital Ventures, and Pear VC, allowing us to build an exceptional team of engineers and operators.

Our number one priority is scaling to market demand. We seek individuals who are high horsepower, high throughput, and hyper resourceful. All full-time roles are in-person in New York.

About The Role: As an Applied AI Engineer, you will work on real production use cases of LLMs and other ML techniques to solve business problems and create groundbreaking AI applications. You will have end-to-end responsibility for projects, including:

  • Scope and spearhead AI augmentation and automation projects.
  • Drive zero-to-one product development from conceptualization through production, collaborating with go-to-market and operations teams.
  • Stay updated on emerging AI methods and establish research strategies.
  • Prototype and productionize AI functionality, incorporating feedback for refinement.
  • Develop engineering processes, tools, and systems to support faster AI product development and scaling.

This role is demanding, requiring a high level of autonomy and responsibility. If you are low-ego, eager to learn, and excited about impactful work, we want to hear from you.

We Need Your Help To:

  • Automate complex workflows for insurance coverage and affordability programs.
  • Combine AI/ML approaches for document classification and unstructured data extraction.
  • Automate multi-step processes using RPA/scraping techniques.
  • Scale solutions across diverse drug classes, patient populations, and provider markets.
  • Ensure robustness of our data and ML pipelines and create consumer-grade experiences.

We'll Be Most Excited If You Have:

  • Strong programming skills and general Computer Science knowledge.
  • Experience with full-stack AI projects and production use cases of LLMs.
  • Proficiency in full-stack web development technologies (e.g., Python, React, Typescript, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes).
  • Strong communication skills to effectively participate in internal and external discussions.
  • A proven track record of quickly delivering on goals and achieving high NPS with former teammates.

Working with us: Tandem is headquartered in New York, with a full team working from a spacious office in SoHo. We foster a high-trust environment with exceptional autonomy, underscoring our principles:

  • Commit to audacity: 'Whether you think you can, or you think you can't - you're right.'
  • Be rigorous and assume nothing.
  • Find the shortest path and use creative solutions when needed.
  • Be direct, invite critique, and strive for the right answers.
  • Expect excellence and offer support to achieve it.
  • Work hard and strive to be number 1.

We offer:

  • Competitive compensation: Meaningful equity reflecting contributions to success.
  • Rich benefits: Fully covered medical, vision, and dental insurance, memberships for One Medical, Talkspace, Teladoc, and Kindbody.
  • Unlimited paid time off (PTO), 16 weeks of parental leave, and a 401K plan setup.
  • Office perks, including lunch every day and dinner after 7 pm.

Our salary ranges are designed to be competitive, factoring in qualifications, experience, skillset, geography, and internal equity. If you find the opportunity exciting, we look forward to your application!
