About the Team

xAI's Human Data team is responsible for delivering high-quality data to drive frontier model performance. We collaborate closely with the post-training and AI tutor teams to develop new solutions that accelerate research progress across model capabilities, evaluation, safety, and alignment.

About the Role

• Responsibilities include:
• Building features end-to-end: front-end, back-end, system design, debugging, and testing.
• Creating systems that monitor and flag quality issues with large-scale data collections.
• Driving high-priority data collection projects for the team.
• Understanding training and evaluation data needs across xAI to improve our platform, while contributing to our technical roadmap and prioritization.
• Innovating human and synthetic data generation methods and pipelines.
• Ensuring the overall data collection platform is secure, scalable, and user-friendly.
• Contributing innovative ideas to help achieve our goal of developing AI systems that accurately understand the universe and aid humanity.

Exceptional candidates may have:

• Experience in delivering high-quality web applications in rapidly changing environments (as a tech lead, former founder, etc.).
• Experience collaborating in highly cross-functional environments.
• Understanding of machine learning model behavior in relation to data distribution and data quality.
• Experience fine-tuning large language models.

Location:

The role is based in the Bay Area (San Francisco and Palo Alto). Candidates are expected to be located near the Bay Area or be open to relocation.

Interview Process:

After submitting your application, the team reviews your CV and statement of exceptional work. If the application passes this stage, you will be invited to a 15-minute phone interview with a team member. Successful candidates will proceed to the main process, consisting of four technical interviews:

• Coding assessment in a language of your choice.
• HTML/CSS interview.
• Systems hands-on session to demonstrate practical skills in a live problem-solving environment.
• Meet the Team: Present your past exceptional work and vision for xAI to a small audience.

We aim to finish the main process within one week, and all interviews will be conducted via Google Meet, without relying on recruiters.

Annual Salary Range: $180,000 - $440,000 USD
