Job Summary: We are looking for an AI Engineer supporting code translation. This project involves an enterprise-level transition from SAS to Python across codebases that facilitate survey collection and processing. These surveys allow the government, the markets, and the public to track demographic patterns of the nation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in machine learning, specifically in Language Learning Models (LLMs) and Natural Language Processing (NLP). The role requires deep experience in managing non-deterministic outcomes, reading documentation, and implementing state-of-the-art technologies, as well as designing experiments to track the success of various approaches.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop scalable LLM-based applications tailored for the public sector.
• Utilize open-source frameworks (e.g., LlamaIndex, LangChain, DSPy, ONNX) in projects.
• Compare and assess performance between open-source LLMs (transformers, Hugging Face) and proprietary models (OpenAI, Claude).
• Experiment with Agent-RAG architectures while managing non-deterministic outcomes.
• Work with DevOps tools and environments including CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Linux OS.
• Evaluate performance and cost tradeoffs between cloud resources and open-source tools.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to translate functional requirements into technical specifications.
• Ensure secure implementation of language models in compliance with public sector regulations and best practices.
• Conduct rigorous testing, validation, and performance evaluation of implemented solutions.
• Prepare technical documentation and reports to communicate technical aspects of the project to non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements:

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience with machine learning algorithms, particularly in NLP and LLMs.
• Proficiency in Python, machine learning frameworks, and statistical programming.
• Experience with open-source LLM technologies and familiarity with Linux OS, containerization (Docker) and GitHub.
• Familiarity with DevOps tools or cloud-based solutions, preferably AWS.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• [Preferred but not necessary]: familiarity with SAS.
